STATEMENT

All of my artwork is rooted in drawing, and combines traditional explorations of color, shape, surface and scale with expressive line work. I follow an inner, personal narrative which is fueled by my natural curiosity and feelings of awkwardness and isolation.

Iā€™m also contemplating the idea of beauty by creating imagery that is reminiscent of classical painting with artificial intelligence. This serendipitous, textual process can render lovely, if sometimes unsettling artworks. I curate the artworks, but do not aesthetically manipulate them.

My photography projects are extremely personal and focus on storytelling with expression, body language and landscape imagery. In my ongoing photographic self-portrait project, Re(Act), I endeavor to create a sense of awkward intimacy while communicating an inner turmoil which I hide from others under a veil of patience and calm. With the rural midwest photographs of Comet I seek to portray an everyplace and a no-place; an uncertain, overlooked, middle.
