INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING VIDEO SERIES

Supplies

For my lessons I strongly suggest you use General’s 2H, HB and 2B charcoal pencils, Nitram charcoal sticks in HB and B, and Strathmore Sketch paper. I’ve found these tools to be consistent and easy to use. You are welcome to substitute other materials and brands, but be aware that if you do, you may not achieve the same results as I do in the videos. A paper with more or less tooth, for instance will grab the charcoal very differently than is demonstrated. Different kinds of charcoal pencils and sticks will blend differently and make different heaviness of marks. I haven’t specified any brand for the kneaded eraser, stick eraser or white charcoal pencils, as I’ve found these tools to be comparable between brands. I use Strathmore 18 x 24 inch sketch paper. You are welcome to use smaller sketch paper, but I’ve found it’s easier to draw on the larger sheets. To sharpen the Nitram charcoal sticks you will need one sheet of 180 grit sand paper.
